This winter I was fortunate enough to stay home from work to invest some time into my blog. When I went back to work, all work stopped on my blog. Why? Because my priorities shifted. All of my energy went into this new job. I went from chasing my dream to building someone else’s dream. Working full-time is extremely draining. When I get home, working towards my own goals doesn’t even cross my mind. I sit down and watch tv, scroll through Instagram, take a bath, go to bed, wake up and go to work again. My time at home has lost all productivity.
So how do I change this behavior?
First, admit it. I have lost sight of my own goals.
Second, decide to make a change.
Pour a cup of tea and make a plan.
What is my plan?
To start with 3 goals:
-
Take care of my stress
- Tidy up my room. I have had the book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up stuffed in a cupboard, half read since I moved into my new apartment.
- Do some yoga. Work it off. Wiggle out the stress.
-
Take care of my finances
- Loosen the reigns on my tight budget. I love investing money and paying extra on my student loans so much that I have left little room for food and fun. It is time to rework my budget to include: enjoying life.
-
Take care of my dreams
- Start blogging again! Writing is a creative release of stress, resulting in more inspiration.
- Post something, anything on my blog. (This step turned into this post). Just to break the cycle of putting off writing a new blog post.
- Revisit courses I have taken in the past, I have listed these at the end. Make Over Your Mornings is a great place to start when you are feeling like your mornings are rushed and when you feel time slipping away.
- Jump back into the Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing course. I started this class this winter and I was learning so much! That is up until I started my new job and exhaustion and excuses seeped back into my life.
- Just keep writing, just keep writing, what do we do? We don’t give up!
Recommended Resources – To Get You Back on Track:
Make Over Your Mornings and Make Over Your Evenings – Transform your mornings and learn how to use your evenings productively and how to get a head start on your next morning. I took both of these courses in the past. They are an incredibly useful tools to determine which goals you should focus on, and how to use your time the most efficiently.
Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing– I am only 67% through this course, so far it is the most informative course I have taken about blogging. If your goal is to build a blog, and make money from home this course breaks down each step of affiliate marketing. It is an investment, costing $197, however the Facebook group associated with this course is worth that price alone. The inspiration and knowledge from other bloggers is invaluable. Returning to this course will be my first step towards refocusing on my goals.
She Pivots Podcast – This is a brand new podcast, so far only one episode but it is a great listen! In an interview with fashion illustrator, Holly Nichols, Holly talks about how she transformed her love of art into a full time career. This podcast is one I return to when I need a little inspiration (like right now) not to give up on my dreams.
How to Crush Your New Years Resolutions – I know it’s not New Year’s anymore, but this post I wrote about goal setting is jam packed with goal setting tips. It is important to remember that a year long goal can start any time from now, just like a birthday or anniversary. Set a new goal today, don’t wait for the beginning of a new week, or a new month, start now.
