Last week I talked about the trouble I have been having focusing on what type of creative projects to work on first. I finally dove into my newest daydream, creating my own watercolor paints. Does anyone else like to buy art supplies more than they actually use them? Have you ever made your own?
This week I started making my own paint from natural earth pigments. So far they have been really fun to make, but much harder than I expected from all of the videos I have been watching on Instagram of other people mulling their own paint. Once I find a grove in paint making I write a tutorial. For now here is a little glimpse of my first paint making session.
Using a glass pallet and glass muller, I mixed French turquoise pigment with a solution of water, honey, and gum arabic to bind it into paint. I poured the paint into small watercolor pans, I am waiting for them to set, then they will be ready to use. If all goes well I will offer a few on Etsy!
