There are many reasons to start your own blog: to share photos with family, to teach others helpful tips, and to even make extra income. I began blogging several years ago as a way to share stories with my friends and family. Writing quickly became therapeutic, as I had recently graduated college, it helped me to organize my thoughts and helped me grow.
The blogging system I use is called WordPress and my website is hosted through a company called Bluehost. When I was researching how to start a blog years ago this company was the one I heard about the most. I signed up for their 3 year hosting service and have been very happy with it. In 3 Simple Steps You Can Start Your Own Blog Today!
Step 1. Sign up for hosting.
Web hosting is the server where your blog will be stored on the internet. I started my first blog 4 years ago, and a second blog last year, both through Bluehost. I recommend their Basic hosting, it is a great place to start. The start up process is quick simply click the green get started now to begin.
Step 2. Choose your domain name.
Choosing your blog name is the fun part. You can choose something catchy or memorable, you can even use your own name. Consider choosing a name to fit the theme of your blog. If you want to start a teaching, DIY, or parenting blog, you might choose something that has your topic within your blog name. Once you decide on a name type in your domain name in the box as pictured below. Bluehost has simple on screen instructions. Enter your domain name. If it is available press next!
After you have chosen your name you will be directed to the next page where you will enter in your account and billing information. There are extra services to add on such as domain privacy protection and site back up pro. Privacy protection prevents your personal information, such as your address, from being shared on the internet. You may click More Information on these services to decide if you would like to purchase these.
Step 3. Install WordPress.
WordPress is the most used blogging system. It allows you to easily draft and publish posts. Essentially, it is the behind the scenes framework for your blog. After you have entered all of your account information you will be directed to the Bluehost home page. There is a 1-Click WordPress Installation. Use this to install WordPress and you are almost done!
After you install WordPress you can customize the appearance by choosing a theme, adding your own logo, and start sharing posts!
I recommend having a handful of posts (5-10) written before launching your blog. Having plenty of posts for people to read will allow them to explore your blog and encourage them to come back for more!
