Happy Mother’s Day! I had an early celebration today for my mom, aunt, and both grandma’s. We had a simple family barbeque at my parents. I feel very lucky to have so many great women in my life. My mom has been there for all of the ups and downs in my life, knows all my secrets, and has supported me though everything.

This quarter I am taking a class called women in science. We are learning about the women who have made contributions to science throughout history. From that class I have learned the importance of surrounding yourself with women who encourage each other. Having women to support and guide you is important. Whether it is your mother, sister, a mentor, or a friend make sure they know you appreciate the role they are playing in your life.
I have had a pretty rough week trying to figure things out, but I am lucky to have my mom, and sisters for support, as well as my friends. Surround yourself with women that will empower you, not tear you down. Especially when you are hurting, the best people are the ones that piece you back together and cheer you up.
Tonight my mom, sisters and I went and saw the movie The Other Woman. It was hilarious! It showed how women can band together under the craziest of circumstances and show a little girl power. Just the thing I needed: to laugh and have fun with the ladies in my life.
Remember, you are never alone there are always people that have your back when unexpected things happen. So enjoy your day! Surround yourself with people who support your crazy dreams. Now I am off to bed, to get up early to do the color run with two of my lovely roommates, Eva and Aubrea!
